Suspicious Prometei Botnet Activity, (Sun, Jan 7th)

On the 31 Dec 2023, after trying multiple username/password combination, actor using IP 194.30.53.68 successfully loging to the honeypot and uploaded eight files where 2 of them are protected with a 7zip password (updates1.7z & updates2.7z). Some of  these files have been identified to be related to the Prometei trojan by Virustotal. The file sqhost.exe [6] was last found by Talos [7] used with the Prometei botnet as a trojan coin miner.

Soft robotic, wearable device improves walking for individual with Parkinson’s disease

Researchers have used a soft, wearable robot to help a person living with Parkinson’s walk without freezing. The robotic garment, worn around the hips and thighs, gives a gentle push to the hips as the leg swings, helping the patient achieve a longer stride. The device completely eliminated the participant’s freezing while walking indoors, allowing them to walk faster and further than they could without the garment’s help.

‘Fat Leonard’ seeks new attorneys ahead of sentencing in Navy bribery case, causing another delay

Convicted Malaysian defense contractor Leonard Francis who led a daring escape weeks before he was scheduled to be sentenced in 2022 is seeking new defense attorneys now that he is back in U.S. custody after the Venezuelan prisoner swap last month. Nicknamed “Fat Leonard,” Francis appeared in U.S. District Court in San Diego on Thursday and was visibly thinner. The judge agreed to let him change attorneys despite the prosecution’s objections that it would further delay his sentencing. Francis faced 25 years in prison for bilking the Navy out of $35 million in a scheme that involved bribing dozens of Navy officials.
